THE BALD MERMAID A MEMOIR by Sheila Bridges
I love books!!! However, in this day and time many of us love them but don't have time to read them. Many people have become skimmers or scrollers on social media sites. I will admit to being one of the guilty ones. Therefore, I have decided to get back into the joy of reading a great book by sharing my favorite books with my followers as well as inviting you to be a part of my monthly book club. I will post my favorite book each month and ask you to join me each weekend by reading, sharing your thoughts and being inspired by what and who are inspirations of my design concepts and creativity.
First, let's begin by why I've chosen this book. Sheila Bridges has been one of my design MUSÉ for years now, ever since I saw her hit design show "Designer Living" featured weekly on the Fine Living channel. I loved how Sheila highlighted the life of other designers however Sheila is one of the most talented designers that I have followed for years. She was named "America's Best Interior Designer" by CNN as well as Time Magazine, and she is truly deserving. I enjoy her ability to design high-end interior environments that are thought-evoking and visually interesting while also comfortable and livable.
The Bald Mermaid is not just a design book but an inspiring memoir about Sheila Bridges life's journey. It explores questions of identity, race, femininity, success, and what it really means to have it all. Sheila received degrees from two prestigious universities which was the foundation and starting point of her wildly successful career as an interior designer, designing homes for high-profile clients and even hosting her own television show. But when Shelia lost her hair due to alopecia, she lost it all: "The Bald Mermaid A Memoir" is her story of coming to terms with what success and happiness mean to her, realizing the cost of freedom, and understanding what it means to stay true to herself in the face of criticism, expectations and judgment from friends, family, lovers, and strangers.
During this month of May, let's enjoy reading "The Bald Mermaid A Memoir" together. Go pick up your copy or order your hard copy here. Then, check in with me on Sundays to chat about it's beautifully illustrated personal photographs and images of Sheila Bridges' interior designs as well as reflect on her delightfully candid, insightful, and often humorous narrative of her ups and downs, and how she persevered to ultimately find the courage to be herself.
