TUESDAY DESIGN TIPS: Living In A Kid Friendly Home

Talking "TUESDAY DESIGN TIPS"

with Realtor Karen Hurst of SoFloLivin in Miami.

KAREN: "How can my clients design a home that's kid friendly yet beautiful for adult living too?"

JEANNA: I call this creating form and function.

I was recently asked what was my style of design… I answered "I am a lifestyle designer. I ask my clients many questions about how they live or want to live in their home and I LISTEN. Then, I take what I'm given and come up with creative solutions to give them a design of what they desire beyond what they would have even imagined."

In this project my client voiced her desire to have a stylish, comfortable, lived in dining area but was concerned that she couldn't because she felt that her children would damage the furniture. My solution... furniture and textiles that are durable as well as beautiful. The chairs were upholstered in a Perennials fabric which looks and feels like linen but has a durability of outdoor fabric. The table has a concrete top with iron base legs... no scratches... very durable. The banquette cushion and pillows were custom made using a Sunbrella fabric that again it looks indoors but has the durability of an outdoor textile. This gives her the clean look that she desires and it will stay that way through the test of time. She loves it and I do too.
